E-Mail in visual C++ (6.0)

I have code to automate outlook with visual c++ 6.0 from Microsofts knowledge base. What I was wondering was how to send a message from any e-mail program the user has. I would assume I would have to learn how to use SMTP, but in visual C++ its alot harder then in VB. So I guess my question is, does anybody know where I could find sample code to do this, or know how to do it?
