Give Up With Led Or Vu Sound Meters!!

HEEELP!
I've been searching for daays and I'm desperated!
I just want to get the sound card out level to use it with a progress bar or something like that so I can see graphically the output level!
Please help me, I'm about to think it's just impossible to do on Visual Basic...

Going at the soundcard is the wrong approach (as far as I know). You need to go at it from the point of the OS as the OS controls all peripherals. See this page near the bottom http://www.thescarms.com/vbasic/default.aspx under the VB6.0 Multi-Media Samples...

That should get you started, then if you use your friends, google and yahoo and search vb6 wav or whatever other keywords you can come up with you will find (and this will take a lot of searching) some code out there that reads various sound files and displays what you want.
