3D Cube

I have no idea where to start. I want to make a 3D cube that you can twist in space using your mouse (turn it in different ways so you can see vaious sides of the cube). I want this cube to be like a rubiks cube, except I want it to be a 7x7x7 rubiks cube (i want 7 rows by 7 columns on each face of the cube). I need to be able to paint each section a different color. Any links to examples or where to start would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
