how can i use php to see where the visitors are from?

i want to see what country/city/state/etc they are from
is that possible?

Are they going to enter this information on a form you provide, or
do you mean by IP address? Even if you access a Whois server to
query by IP, you might at best get the address of the ISP but the
person might be in a completely different location.

no, they will not enter anything into a form. they will just log on to the page and their location will be stored into a txt file.
so i'm wondering what command i should use

You can't. Not without doing what thinker said and querying a WHOIS database to get the country that the IP has been assigned to. Luckily, the web is fairly anonymous.
