change a combos style to 1 - simple combo when not being edited?

Hi, for the sake of neatness. would it be a bad idea to have all my combo boxes as SIMPLE COMBO boxes while they are not being edited?
this will get rid of the little arrow to drop down.

if this isnt bad practice, how would i set its tyle to the one i want?

What are you trying to accomplish? Why is it neater to have part
or all of the list always displayed? For comboboxes with a fixed
set of choices (user can't put one in not in the list), I always use
style 2.

im just trying to make it looker neater when the user is just viewing the records
then when they choose to edit, they turn back to appear like combo boxes.
If i use style 2 all my values dissapear by the way :-(
