Depends on what your first game was and how much you know. :)

Good games to start out with are pong and snake. Good ol' classics that teach alot of basic skills needed to make bigger games. I have made both numerous times, in different styles.

Umm... what you should do next... Watch TV perhaps? Read a book? Sleep?!

Or write another game. :)

A memory game with extended features...

remember that the most simplest game can break bricks when added some cool stuff...

I'm still struck by the fact that they keep going for the graphics whilst in the end it is the gameplay that keeps ppl getting back to a game.

Have a look at Rare Software... those ppl understand what in the end is the purpose 'bout game-making.

thats wrong a game with extremly poor graphics might be entertaining but whats the first thing a user looks at when the buy or download a game!!

THE GRAPHICS!!

while maybe not import at begginers level a good game must have high quality graphics!

Never said the graphics weren't important m8.

But I've seen enough games with subleme graphics getting slayed since the gameplay equaled totally nothing.

What I meant to say is that you need to find the perfect balance between the gameplay and the graphics, but that most developers just go ahead for the graphics. :)

Otherwise, how come ppl keep playing stupid Snakegames, Tetris and so on?
Gameboy games have to feed themselves on good gameplay/Gamedesign.(fi Pokemon, Tetris,...) Graphics come in second place in this matter and quiet honestly I think it should be that way for every game.

but anyway, it's too much offtopic in this thread. ;)

I place my bets on a simple but steady game with extra features.

I wasn't going for the selling factor of games, I was going for the lifespan of the games

He's not saying graphics arent important, hes just saying gameplay is just as important.

Infact, thats why things like MUD's have been so amazingly popular for such a long time, even in the age of 3D. When first made, they didnt have graphical capabilities, so they stayed with plain text and made it with amazing gameplay. They are still quite popular, because their gameplay is amazing. If only other game makers, the ones that actually use graphics, had a look at MUD's, theyd learn alot.

But i do aggree with you too, graphics are important. But like breezer said, its all about balance.
