Default File Upload Option (VB)

Hi,

I am designing a web protal as a part of which,i am supposed to upload and download files.
I have enlistd the file names in a grid view which in turn is being populated by a table in TOAD.

My TOAD table consists of the attributes, No, Subject, Id_No, Ext, Address.

All the files are stored in a sub folder with the Id_No as file name.

I have an ' upload file' option under the gridview, wherein i want the user to browse and select the file, and on clicking the Upload button, the file name should be stored in the TOAD table, under the appropriate attributes. i.e.

A Serial No should be generated and stored under No.
The file name should be stored under Subject.
An id_No should be generated and again stored under ID_No
The extension of the file should be stored under Ext
And the Id_No and Ext should be appended and added to Address in the following manner:

javascript:popUp('http://localhost/healthsystem/HealthArticles/1357.docx')

Please let me know how this can be done.

Thank you
Regards,
Ritwika

Hi Ritwika,

What you are asking is possible... But you are asking a lot, more than just identifying a single question. How about we break your topic into chunks.

Do you know how to upload a file to the server? You explain that the control is located on the page, under the grid-view... But do you know how to use that control?

Once you have a file sent to the server, do you know how to manage this file (save it to the hard drive with a specific file name)?

Another thing is classifying the file based on your specific criteria and store this information into a database table. Are you familiar with this?

Then it seems the last thing is to refresh your grid-view to show the uploaded file. If you are familiar with populating this, then I believe you can refresh this grid-view too, correct?

SO... To sum-up what I've typed... Post back with a specific question and let's take it from there.

Basically start with verifying if your hosting provider supports ASPUpload.
If not you will have to find one who does or buy a licenses for this add-on.
After that simple follow instruction and examples in that add-on and you will be happy camper faster then you think.
All examples are self explanatory and even if you have basic knowledge of ASP(or C#) -- building fully functional apps follow them will not be a problem.
