Lightbulb 'net send'

Could someone please give me the VB6 code (perhaps using 'net send') to send a message to other computers on the WAN / Internet?
We have branches / affiliates in several states and I need to have a way to send alerts. I wrote an application using 'net send' which found limited to send to computers within the LAN at my location.
Is there any particular required setting for my computer?

I'm afraid you'll not have that much luck with your project as long as you dont have a fully routed WAN. Without knowledge about your LAN/WAN topology there will be no answer to that. Best guess is you'll need to create a chat app or some gateway for each site.

1. Do you mean that each of the computers at our branches / affiliates locations have to be fully routed?
2. Is there a document you may refer me to, for more information on how the computer which is set up to generate the warnings is to be configured?
3. We are going to set the sending computer on a dedicated DSL, will this constitute “fully routed WAN”?

Default netsend ?

Hi to all out there !

I'm just on the way to get some information on how to use that MSComm control, especially how to get my PRG to recognize if the line is busy or successful (user answered the phonecall).
So I found that posting.
I have a solution for it:

Simply look at what you have to type when you are in the DOS command prompt.
It looks like this :

netsend [computername] "hello world !"

...or something like that.
I'm not really sure.
Just type in netsend /? to get some help for the correct command.

So far so good.

Now try to create a *.bat file with the needed command.
Doubleclick it, and you will have sent a message via netsend.

Final step :

Try to create that *.bat file with VB !
Like this :
-----------------------------
Open "C:\temp\sending.bat" For Output As #1

Print #1, "netsend MyComputerNo2 " & Text1.Text
Print #1, "del sending.bat"

Close #1

Shell ("C:\temp\sending.bat") 'and let's start it
-----------------------------

That's all.
Perhaps you need the "-sign, that would be chr$(34)

For question please use the email adress MWagner@donau.de,
I'm not sure if I am here very often.

So ok, I hope I could help you a bit.

Maybe someone knows some solutions for my MSComm - question ?

Thx for now.
