Default MScomm

Hello guys,

I need to use a digital scale with rs232 and when I start an application that contains mscomm1.portopen, the application takes a while to start but then works. The application needs to load faster, do you have any hints ?

Thank you very much

JP

Is the launch delay fully related to the PortOpen request? Can you bypass this step and see the launch happen in a normal amount of time?

Does the launch delay vary by which Comm port number that you use? Try a built in Com1 on the computer versus some other Comm port number assigned to say a USB serial adapter cable.

thanks for your quick answer, actually with the Hyperterminal the connection loads very quickly with the usb serial adapter. I don't have any real com port1 on the computer.

It takes at least 10 seconds to the form to load when the code contains formopen...

Any hints to look at ?

Thanks

JP

I'm not aware of any of our C++ applications having delays when opening USB converter serial ports. Unfortunately, I don't have access to one to test with VB. I know the success of actually getting a converter to function in all scenarios may depend on the converter device manufacturer (and their ability to create a good device driver).

I would suggest you give us some info on the VB you are using (version and service pack version) and the OS (version, service pack and whether it is 32/64 bit). Also, please show us all the code required to bring the application to its loaded state.
