Post Application Transfer

I am using VB6.0 on window XP. I have developed a simple program in VB6.0 and deployed it with the Deployment Wizard. The program can be installed on any computer and it can run perfectly. Pls I need help on how to write a Winsocket program so that the application can only be installed on one computer (i.e The Server) and can be accessed by other users on other computers (i.e Client) using either LAN Or Wireless network.

Please, any help from you will be highly appreciate. Pls, this is urgent. Thanks

I'm not sure what you are asking for.

You can't "install" onto a server and run the program from clients reliably. Clients need the components installed and registered locally, and running programs on a remote server share is strongly discouraged anyway.

Remote access to a program on a "server" can be done, but this means a "Terminal Server." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Desktop_Services

Your question is very unclear.

Do you want to write an application which will work on a terminal service?
Or do you want to write a remote desktop program yourself???

I doubt anyone here's going to write the whole thing for you. Google "VB6 client server". There's a decent example on code project that should get you started.

Are you just wanting to write an application that will be installed on a terminal server and accessed as a remote application by the users or are you after something that actually integrates with terminal server in a specific way.

If you are trying to develop an application that can be deployed on a terminal server then you should be able to just write a normal VB6 app and deploy it to the terminal server.

In that case you shouldn't normally need to do anything special, you should just be able to deploy a VB6 app to the terminal server.

Actually there are a bunch of issues to address. Sorry, I don't have a link to anything comprehensive though.

Applications Relying on GetProfileString Function or VB.Global.Printers for Printer Enumeration May Experience Performance Issues on Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server points out just a couple of them.

ODBC DSNs can be an issue, the PDW's setups don't deploy per-machine, many security issues can be run into since Joe VB Plinker often tends to do everythnig as an admin. There is quite a list really.

FIX: You receive a "The common dialog function failed during initialization" error message when your Visual Basic 6.0 program runs on a Terminal Server and uses the Common Dialog control to open a file

Do some searching, there may still be a Web site where somebody had gathered many of the common issues and solutions.

This isn't really any kind of "communications" question at all either. It's more of a general development issue.
