Exclamation Excel Challenges

Now and again, a set of requirements emerges which appears to have neither documented solution nor viable work-around.

In this scenario, a true developer is given a rare chance to shine while others can only stand back in awe. This is achieved when technical knowledge, problem solving experience and lateral thinking are employed in the just the right proportions to deliver a stoke of genius! The purpose of this thread is to champion such rarities as they arise in response to questions posed in this board.

If no-one is able to suggest a satisfactory solution to a challenging question, and if the board leadership decide that the request meets the Challenge criteria, it will be added to this thread, together with a link to the original thread. The question may be re-phrased or edited by the Moderators at this stage if necessary, in order to clarify the question.

If you think you have devised a solution to an existing Challenge (which has an appreciable advantage over all existing Challenge solutions!), follow the link to the original thread and post your solution there. All forum members will then be at liberty to criticise or praise your contribution, so beware!
Quote:
1) Be very sure of your solution,
2) use VB tags where appropriate,
3) include code comments if you are using code,
4) and take time to describe the entire process in detail.
If your solution makes the grade, a link to your contribution post will be added in the original Challenge post, together with a credit to your name. Solutions will not be promoted on request! The decision of the Moderators is anonymous and binding.

Remember, part of the selection process will involve an internet search and any proven acts of plagerism may result in your solution being deleted and an appropriately dark smudge being placed aginst your name!

Enjoy!

There must be a better way.

Does anybody know of an easy way to identify all locked cells that doesn't permanently change the worksheet.

Default Get name of user who has the file open

In networked environments, an Excel file that you want to work with can be in use by another user. Opening the file manually brings up a notification with the name of the other user. But how can we get the name of the user with VBA code?
