Default # character before a string

Hello, in Visual Basic, the # character after a string, means that x is defined as double.

For example:

dim x#

means that x is roughly between 10^-300 and 10^300.

But, what is the meaning of the # character, before a string?

input #x

Thanks in advance, Ray.
