Default midi tunes start to sound off pitch after couple of song changes?

hey im a bit green on all of this but maybe someone can point me in the right direction!
i have multiple 'dmseg' loaded for different midi tunes. now i can load them all and start/ stop as required- problem is the songs start to sound different (off key/pitch) after a couple have been played?
theyre all loaded at the start, im assuming the GM instrument header has to be reinitialised each time a different segment is started. how exactly is this done? or am i way off track !

regards and thanks in advance

im working with vb6 if this helps
the project is controlling a pinball machine in real time with vb6-for those who maybe interested:

do you reset the midi device between songs?

(its probably that the pitch wheel is being altered by one of the midi files)

im using a class event to drive the midi audio, i assumed that when the new segment was loaded the instrument header was also written and therefore the segment plays as its gm patch header suggests, perhaps it is only changing the note/sequence data, i will dig a bit deeper tonight.
thank you for the heads up.

regards
