Default Jumping Mexican Mario Game, Help

I am trying to create a type of game like Super Mario World. I have read through many post about jumping but i am having trouble trying to convert the Code into my own version which is proving difficult.

Basically i want the up key for the Jump i know the theory of doing it but when coding it my mind goes blank lol.

I was wondering if anyone could help shed some light on this for me. I am using VB 6.0. I have attach the game so far, Using blitting with masks for transparency.

Thanks Jay

you have to think of Mario jump in slow motion.

in Mario the jump is a main feature of the game and will be complicated because the arrow keys still have effect the whole time.

the jump key will start a routine.

you need a period of time for Mario to travel upwards through the game loop, then is he is not on solid ground you need to have a gravity effect to pull him down.
