Post DirectX Help

I have been concidering learning directx for awhile and I have finnally decided to pick it up.

And I was wondering where would be a good place to find tutorials?

I'm not asking anyone here to teach me, I would just like to know what websites, books, video series, etc. you'd recommend for learning DX

This forum is moderated by one of the guys who wrote the book on directx http://www.jharbour.com/forum/ or should I say he wrote a few books on the subject. Then you could always use your friends (yahoo, google, ask, answers, bing) to search for vb6 directx tutorial and finally there is always PSC (planet-source-code.com) and if you did not notice, right above this forum is a sub forum entitled directx. You could alwasy have a look through there...

Good Luck

Default DirectX Stuff

The trouble you are going to run into is that so many DirectX tutorials are oriented toward the .Net version of DirectX, so I took about five minutes to throw together a few VB6 related DirectX links (and of course there may be some overlap but at least it may save you a little search time)

http://www.drunkenhyena.com/cgi-bin/directx.pl
http://directx4vb.vbgamer.com/
http://www.vbexplorer.com/VBExplorer.../d3d_Index.asp
http://www.vbexplorer.com/VBExplorer...cles/ddraw.asp
http://www.vbgames.com/directx_form.asp
http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.asp?ID=1883
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/art...rticle1308.asp
http://www.rookscape.com/vbgaming/tutG.php
http://gpwiki.org/index.php/VBirectX_tutorials
http://wiki.gamedev.net/index.php/Ca...ct3D_Tutorials
http://www.vb6.us/tutorials/DirectX
http://www.justvb.net/directx.htm

If you want to work with DirectX I also recommend you download one of the DirectX SDKs which contain samples as well as DLLs.
They are no longer available via the Microsoft site so here's some ways to download them elsewhere (no guarantees about how long these links will stay active and available though).

DirectX 8 VB SDK

Direct Download Link

Pages with download link for Dx8 SDK
http://www.vbgore.com/DirectX_8.1_SDK
http://www.bscgames.com/dx_sdk_vb.asp

DirectX 7.0a SDK
(use link on far right under Downloads - File size: 122MB)

Also maybe:

VB6OldGuy, I don't know if you know this or not, probably do, but if you do your searches with "vb6 directx tutorial", ie using "vb6" as part of your search string you will remove a lot of that .net cra... stuff

Default VB6 DirectX Only

Yes I do know that and that's what made gathering the links in my last post quicker, but it is a useful search tip for VbNerd96 when he searches for additional information on the net.
I also use "-.net" as a screening filter at the end of the first round of my Google searches when looking for VB6 code.

Thank you all for the replies.

@vb5prgrmr:
I have searched the web for tutorials and books and videos; however, I wasn't really sure which ones were good tuts, books, and/or videos on the subject, so I was just trying to find ones that people on this forum would recommend.

thx again
