Default Unerstanding available RAM

On two of my computers the max I can dim a byte array is:

Public arr1() As Byte
ReDim arr1(1 To 533,790,688)

If I attempt to dim 1 element more, I get "Out of Memory" error.

However if I dim a public UDT (LenB = 116 bytes) 1 To 100,000
and also
ReDim arr1(1 To 533,790,688)
VB accepts this.

What's up with that?

Can I somehow use GlobalMemoryStatusEx and use the ullAvailVirtual parameter to somehow calculate the maximum array size I can dimension?

GlobalMemoryStatusEx returns ullAvailVirtual =1,935,712 kilobytes (1,982,169,088 bytes) on my system.
