Unhappy VB.NET programs without the .NET framework?

I am currently writing a small GUI that maps connects, authenticates, and maps network drives for a small group of clients. I have used VB.NET so far. The problem is, our clients probably won't have the .NET framework installed nor do I want to force them to install it prior to using this tool.

Is there a way to compile my program in such a manner that it won't need the .NET framework to run? Is there some kind of an installation package that will install the necessary runtimes along with the program itself? I would like to do anything to avoid rewriting this program in VB 6.

On the same note, does C++ and C# .NET require the .NET framework for it's executables?

Thanks. cmn

If you compile a .net program, which uses the Intermediate Language (MSIL), then the client does need the .Net Framework to run it.

If you are creating an installation for your program, install the .Net Framework along with your installation program.

I think you are doing your clients a favor by installing it for them.

Supposedly the .Net Framework comes with XP but i think anything other than that will need it installed.

you need the .Net framework to run managed code. VB.Net and C# can produce ONLY managed code. C++ (in VS.Net) can produce unmanaged code so long as you don't use any of the "Managed Extensions for C++".
