Default Problem with Instalation package!!

Hi there...

I having a little problem with a VB application that i created. With the Microsoft Visual Basic Package & Deployment Wizard i created a instalation package of my application. But that package that worked just fine in my computer(under Windows XP Professional Portuguese) didn't work on Windows 2000 Professional and Windows NT.
This means that instalation packages created under Windows XP Professional only work on Windows XP plataform?
Can somebody help me on this? I really appreciate that...

And what do you propose? That we all install vb on the "target" computers?
The thing with the dll's it's the P&D Wizard's job... it should include all the files needed for the app to run properly

So rcrespo, like VBMan889 said, please give us more hints... what does happen when you try to run you app? What kind of app is yours? What errors pop?

A modest proposal: Shouldn't the F.A.Q. section say something like "No, you can't just run your VB-created .EXE on any Windows computer! You *must* create a setup program for its initial installation! For details, see . . ."

(In gentler language, of course.)

Different systems require different runtime files. Some already have it, some don't

A good setup utility would take care of that for you, installing as many files as needed.

Man,

I have faced a similar problem while installing an application under W2k. Searching at MS, I found that the problem was the oleaut32.dll.

The Setup file tries to distribute this dll (usually updated in the programmer's computer) and Windows 2000 does not allow an application to update kinda systems files. See it at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=260051&sd=msdn

Visual Basic Service Pack 4 (an on) corrects the problem.
