Default MSI, CrystalReports and Quickbooks, oh my

I am new to creating MSI installers, very new. Fairly experienced in MANY other area of development, and using VSI or other installers. But MSI is new.

I'm hoping someone can direct me to a good tutorial to get started building MSIs. Work has bought SetupFactory, so I am using that... but I am looking more for the very basics.. the foundation knowledge regarding the MSI technology.
MSI for dummies is what I need
I don't even know where to start... do I gather files from my project like VSI, or do I point it to a complete compiled package of my app?

I have had some success just by tinkering and deploying small simple apps, but I need actual KNOWLEDGE behind what I'm doing... the project I need to deploy is very large, with MANY dependancies, and must also include a quickbooks package, and the **** Crystal Reports Merge Modules.

Yes, yes, google is my friend... but all the pages it links to seem to hate me. they all seem to assume I know the basics of using MSI, which I dont. And there are MANY more that are just trying to sell you thier installer package. WIKIPEDIA doesnt even give much help as far as a starting point.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.
