Default vb app wont install on XP Pro

Hi,
I have a VB6 app, developed on my PC (XP Home) which works fine. I used the P&D Wizard to compile it and saved it to my mem stick. Everything OK so far... but when I try and install it on my laptop from the mem stick (XP Pro SP3) it will not install, saying that some files are out of date. I am guessing these are system32 files (various dlls and ocxs), though precisely which ones I don't know. The app includes a user-written .ocx control - a numeric text box - written on the XP Home machine.
One solution might be to install VB6 on the laptop, but it won't have it, because during the VB6 installation, it asks to update the Java Virtual Machine, and the laptop isn't connected to the internet (it doesn't really need to be. Its sole use at the moment is to run my VB6 app, which is for entering astronomical observations 'in the field'). If you untick the 'update JVM' box then installation ceases - this has to be the most pointless tick-box of all time.
I have now begun writing the app in PHP, but have hit a snag because the app depends on a dropdown box populated via a database which is itself queried through another dropdown box, and that won't wash in PHP!
Any ideas how I can get the app to run on the XP Pro laptop?

Could be almost anything, but most likely you are trying to deploy libraries that are no longer deployable anyway. The PDW's "do not redist" list must be kept up to date by hand, or else it will do this very thing. To do this you have to stay on top of 16 years of MS KB articles.

If we saw your SETUP.LST file we might be able to point out which libraries to manually exclude via the Wizard.

As for the MSJVM, that isn't needed at all, but curse Anders Hejlsberg for that popup. You should be able to just cancel the dialog asking for it. However in any case installing VB6 everywhere isn't the answer.

VB6 was always meant as a tool for professionals. As time and Windows have marched on it has become less and less of a tool for the Kasual Koder every day. Deployment isn't a trivial matter.

VB.Net comes in a Home Game Version though. As a PHPer you might prefer that.

Thanks very much for pointing this stuff out. I have attached the setup.lst file (well, the contents, since .lst files themselves are verboten!) Am I right in thinking it's those system files that are out of date? And that newer versions that are in my XP Pro machine would be used when installing on it?

It looks like you might not have Service Pack 6 installed for VB6:

Let us know if that does not help, as the installer is busy in several different directions.

Brilliant! Downloaded SP6 and installed my app first time, no probs. I had forgotten that although I was using SP6 up until about a year ago, when I reinstalled VB6 after a HD wipe, I neglected to reinstall SP6 along with it.
Thanks to everyone for help and advice. Great stuff!
