Default system error on shortcut

Hi,
I have just got a new laptop and have installed my compiled VB6 app, which apparently was completed successfully. I created a folder for it to be installed in.
However, when I click the shortcut I get this:
system error &H800700E(-2147024770) and the program refuses to run.
The app runs on my main PC which is 64-bit, just as it did on my previous laptop (XP).
New laptop is:
W7 home premium SP1, 32 bit.

It seems a few others have got this exact-same error message in the past, and it was something to do with file locations? Should I have installed the app in the installer's suggested location (I presume that would be 'program files)? Or is there a problem with it being VB6 (surely not, or it wouldn't have run quite happily on 2 other different machines)?
Could there be some 'factory setting' on the new laptop? (it's not strictly new, but 'good reconditioned'). Updates were applied.

What if you don't click the shortcut?
If you run the exe directly does it have the same issue?
Is it possible the other machines have Microsoft Office installed and this one doesn't?

Cheers Passel! Food for thought, and (possibly) right on both counts.
1) No, I haven't tried just running the exe directly - but do you mean simply not using the installation package at all but 'installing' only the exe file? But wouldn't this mean that my user-written 'number-only text box' which is a part of the app wouldn't be installed and thus the app still wouldn't run?
2) Aha... the new laptop indeed does not include office.
So based on your advice I shall go away now and see if I can't install office, although it's an old version (office 97!). Thanks.

PS - in fact within the last hour I have had the idea of writing the app as a PHP web page instead of VB6 (the new laptop wouldn't let me install that, either)

Serious question:

Why do we find people using Office 97 so much in this day and age? It has no particular advantages and many disadvantages. I could see reasons to avoid Office 2007 and newer, but Office 97?

Is it just more easily pirated software than the later, more solid versions or something?

No, it's just what I have. I can't afford modern office!

Sure seems odd.

I was able to get Office 2000 Pro directly from Microsoft for about $35 back in the day as part of a Hands-On Training Kit. Later I got two copies of Office 2003 Pro for free when the "Office 2003 Roadshow" came to town.

Guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Hi all, and thanks for the advice. Anyway, everything's OK now. Visited my cousin today and she was going to 'bin' her laptop so I took it off her hands and my app installed right away, and runs. Not sure why the problem happened, but hey ho.. (And the company who supplied the 'offending' laptop have agreed to do a full refund!)
Thanks again.

So the "fix" was to use another computer that has some compatible version of Office?

And yet somehow rewriting this application in PHP would have been a solution?

Seriously, it isn't April 1st.
