When you install a Microsoft Visual Basic application, you may receive the following message:
Quote:
Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system. Click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now. You will need to restart Windows before you can run setup again. Click cancel to exit setup without updating system files.
After Windows restarts and you begin the installation again, the error message appears again.

NOTE: This occurs with either the Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 Application Setup Wizard (ASW) or the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Package and Deployment Wizard (PDW).

The latest version of Visual Studio Installer (v1.1) is available for download at

VSI Download

Note: It is only legal to use if you have Visual Studio (or, any one of the included languages) Pro or Enterprise version.

Default Working VSI 1.1 download links

I saw VSI (Visual Studio Installer) 1.1 mentioned in another thread as an alternative using VB6's PDW (Package and Deployment Wizard), which has some issues under Windows 7.

Unfortunately all the links I have been able to find for VSI 1.1 on the Microsoft site are dead or gone.

There are also broken links on The Internet Archive (Wayback Machine).

These are the only two links (1, 2) for the archive of the Microsoft VSI 1.1 installer download page.

On both pages the links to Setup1.exe are broken (but you can download the other needed file, Setup2.exe, just fine for now).

This is the Internet Archive Wayback Machine page which contains the archives of the Setup1.exe file:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://...-US/setup1.exe

I found the April 16, 2006 link is working for now.
Get the files while you can if you have any future plans to play around with (or use) VSI 1.1 in the future.

Final note:
Just in case the above Setup2.exe links fail in the future, this is the page which contains links for all Internet Archive Wayback Machine archives of the file:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://...-US/setup2.exe
