Default VB tutorials won't open

For some reason, when I try to open the VB .NET tutorials (particularly DirectPlay) from the DirectX SDK, Visual Studio .NET opens up and says "The selected file is not a valid Visual Studio solution file." I don't get any DLL errors or anything, just that. It won't open. I don't get it. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this weird problem? I really need to look at these tutorials, because I plan to use DirectPlay for a multiplayer card game I'm designing, and without these tutorials, there is no way I'm going to figure it out.

I tried to open the *.vbproj file accompanying the tutorial just for kicks. This is the error message I got: "Unable to read the project file 'Tut02_Host.vbproj'. The project 'Tut02_Host.vbproj' was created with a newer version of Visual Studio which in (sic) incompatible with your version. You can only open this project with newer versions of Visual Studio."

My Microsoft IDE version is 7.0.9466, .NET Framework is version 1.0.3705. I tried to check for updates, but the program said it encountered "errors" while trying to download required files. So.. what now?

Yep, i would definitely say version probs.

Should have .NET framework at least 1.1.4432.

I have IDE version 7.1.3088.

I have .NET 1.1.4322 on here, but my IDE is still using the old one. I can't figure out how to get it to use the new one. Maybe completely remove the old one? That sounds scary.

I have no idea. I had Visual Studio 2002 on here, which came with old Visual C++ .NET. Then I bought Visual Basic .NET, and now I have the latest IDE. Not sure where you can get updates from.

Hm.. Oh well, thanks for your help. Hopefully I will figure this out somehow. In the meantime, I think I can view the *.vb codes using notepad, and if I have to, I can just pull it out and put the code in my own files just to see how they work.

The samples are totally compatible with .NET 2002, but you have to make a couple of changes:

1) Change the solution file - Format Version 7.00
2) Change the project file - ProductVersion = "7.0.9466" and SchemaVersion = "1.0"

There's some converters floating around:

You can't download like a patch to go to v 7.1* (VS.NET 2003), you will have to buy a complete new package :-/

I used to go to directx4.net, but now it comes up with some weird GoDaddy.com thing that says directx4.net is "coming soon." Interesting.
