Default 3D Board Game

Hey all

Planning a Board game at the moment and ive got the vision of a 3d board, i was wondering the many ways of doing it, mainly the most simple. i know you can do a 2D board using x,y co ords is it possile to draw one using x,y,z.

sumthing like http://www.chesscentral.com/chess-bo...board--600.jpg

or would it be possible to use an image like that to give the effect of 3D.

Gonna have to move its around the board lke checkers.

thanks

The may give the illusion to be in 3D, but my guess is that you could still use 2D. If you truly wanna move around the board and make pieces bigger the closer up they are etc. then you'll need to use DirectX.

Never used it...if you've worked with GDI before it's soorrrtttaa similar I suppose, but that's just for 2D stuff. DirectX 3D is in another league. You'd have to ask questions about it in the graphic section of the forum, but it's not a casual undertaking. And yes, it should work for VB.

DirectX questions go in the DirectX section. As far as learning DirectX, there are plenty of tutorials:

Two that I know of right now:

You'll be hard pressed to find a free comprehensive tutorial on DirectX 9 with .net, people pay big money to learn that kind of thing on courses. The best I can suggest is to simply look for what you need and after reading a feww small not-so-comprehensive guides and tips you'll eventually build a tutorial in your head of what you should do.

This is all from personal experience so if any one has found a site with huge impressive tutorials on Direct X let me know I'm still looking.

Everything I've used from 2003 has worked in 2005. 2005 version just adds more elements...but ya, everything should work. The only time it wouldn't is if you went from VB6 to .NET.

When you get an error dealing with something like arguments that means you have to make sure that the function that you're calling has the right arguments that you see there. Go to the Public Sub New() function in the clsSprite and check the arguments there to see if they match. Also, if you read the tutorial, the Sub New is already there and yours should look something like that.
