Question Video screenshot

Hi there,
This is my first time in this forum and Im hoping someone of you guys could help me out...

I am trying to design a program using vb 2005 which plays video using DirectX SDK, specifically Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback. Now I play the video perfectly and I face no problems with that, but I need a function which would be able to take snapshots of the video and save it locally as bitmap files. Im not that experienced in DirectX programming, however I tried the most basic stuff like capturing the screen manually but I keep on getting a black box where the video used to be, and if the video is still playing, weirdly enough, you'll be able to watch the video through the image itself!!! haha

If somebody could explain to me why this happens, and how could I over come it, i would really appreciate it!

Thank you very much

----------
Open Window Media Player
Then go to Tools | Options
In Options, select the Performance Tab
Way below you click on the Advanced Button
Uncheck “Use Overlays’
Click Ok
-----------
And you are ready.

You might want to check out DirectShow instead of DirectX. I use this for video capture, playback and grabbing snapshots. They have lots of sample projects to get you started and a forum for help.
