Post Unsolicited PMs

I'd just like to post a reminder that our posting guidelines apply to private PMs as well. Since there has been some abuse of this system lately, here are some general guidelines about sending PMs:

Please send a PM:
  • to an administrator if you have a problem or question about your account
  • to an administrator or moderator if you have a disagreement with a moderating issue
  • to any of our forum leadership if you have a forum-related concern that you are not comfortable discussing in our public forums
  • to any of our forum leadership if you have a problem with another member
  • to an expert if you have a question or suggestion regarding a Knowledge Base post that he/she has made
  • to any of our members with whom you have a prior acquaintance from forum interaction, as long as the PM exchange is agreeable to the recipient.

Please do not send a PM:
  • requesting personal information about other members
  • soliciting help with code (this should be done in the public forums where it can benefit everyone)
  • when the recipient does not want to continue the exchange (he/she has either explicitly told you so, or is not answering your PMs)
  • if the contents of your PM violate our posting guidelines (bad language, sexual innuendo, software piracy requests, spam, threats, etc.)
  • to more than one member of the leadership regarding an account, site, member, or moderation issue (it wastes everyone's time if several of us are trying to handle the same issue at once)

If you receive a PM which you consider to be inappropriate from another member, please feel free to forward it to one of our leaders/mods/admins, and we will review the situation and take appropriate action if necessary.
