Default Quick question about formatting date

DateArriveTextBox.Text = Format(DateArriveTextBox.Text, "dd/MM/yyyy")
I tried this but instead of the date in the wanted format I actually get the letters themselves how do I correct this?

If you wish to format a date as a string then you need to actually pass a date in as the first parameter, you are currently passing a string that may look like a date in but not actually a date.
