now I'm trapped in Rolköce.

Yeah, I did make Rolköce kinda hard.
In what area are you trapped? Is it after the Splitter Building (which is after the Ice Rink)? I recall in one of the rooms, there is a skilift that is sitting way in the top left corner that dips down about every 10~20 seconds... maybe that is it?

It's right at the start, in a totally dark area. There seem to be holes everywhere and I lost my jump boots when I went into that oasis earlier...

The whole area is too dark? Hmm... uh-oh.
Well, yes, there are holes everywhere, and the tiles are really dark. Your eyes may have to adjust to the darkness. If, not, there is a SetGamma line somewhere in the code that you can use to brighten the level a bit.
*Ah... this is Line #1728 which controls the brightness...
you can set each to anything between -99 & 99 (as you may know already if you've checked out http://www.directx4vb.com/)
Code:
SetGMColors -20, -20, 0
You can try setting it to ~10, 10, 40....

Thank you, that helped.
And no, I don't know DirectX yet. I never saw the need because I'm not much of a gamer, but when I see this game...

Thanks!
Did you change the gamma setting or let your eyes adjust?

I adapted the settings. I have a monitor problem, so I think it's showing it darker than it is supposed to be.
I've passed the halfway point by now and making my way through Rainfall River. I'll try to leave the settings there (the flashing), it would be cheating a bit otherwise.
Would you consider letting players start again in Initializa instead of right after the previous flag? It gets a bit frustrating going the same way every time. Or you could give more points so the game can be saved sooner for the next try. On the other hand, sadistic and frustrating gimmicks seem to be part of the game's charm and character. (We won't talk about the maker, that's between you and your therapist.)

Oh, no... don't tell me that the "lightning" is giving you epilepsy.
(I would've added rain if direct memory access didn't mess up the frame rate so much)

Hmm... maybe. Although, you can't really start at the beginning because of the way that Initializa Desert is set up with the holes between Cascode & Fort Cugue... also the event between Volent & Rapeed. I doubt if I'll use this level structure anymore, but one similar to the original, except with Save.

Uh, thanks, I think....

Don't worry, it was meant as a compliment. I particularly liked the part where you tell the user to stay on the path and then let him zigzag through a harmless area too.

Where is this at? The Fort Cugue/Divorse area? That's just a superstition. All games have those. Except you'll want to stay on the path in the area where the traps surround the path... .

Quadrill 3

Here is the latest installment in the book of Quadrill .
Quadrill 3:
120x90 Maps.
More items
Smooth scrolling (mostly)
Weapons (aka waveballs)
Monsters that throw them back at you.
Blazes/fires
Scrolling Belts and Mudslides
Sound effects
and much more.
4 areas here.
Let me know if you find any bugs/suggestions
(hopefully there isn't one that gets you right at the beginning).
Enjoy!

Nice work as always, IcePlug. There does seem to be a problem with the keys not always registering right away (I have to press a few times to get the guy going).
Also as always, I managed to get myself stuck. I have the first SFlag and think I did most of Grier and Jusk, but now I've lost all items (no idea how) and can't get further.

Hmm... where are you? The pier-to-pier network?
I haven't perfected the guiding stuff yet, but hopefully there's only one really bad spot.
Oh, BTW, pressing S will save it... no points required.

I did all that with the pier-to-pier network (loved that by the way). But now that I've lost the raft and extinguisher I can't get to that part of Grier nor go back south in Jusk to see if I forgot something there. North of Grier I can't get to either (I can see the black and yellow paperclip thing there but not reach it).

You should be able to go downstairs into the caves and find the Shock Wave, then in another cave you should find a teleport that takes you to some darkened walls, that the Shock Wave can break down.
What's the black and yellow paperclip?
You may actually be stuck, as I didn't put in the safeguards... if you walked on the R and you are talking about the black and yellow thing that knocks down a few trees.

OH! Quadrill 3 is here and in what shape!
Love to see you innovate it Iceplug and yet keeping the old feeling there.
I only had a glance at it but it suggested that it would be long night today. I'll inform you 'bout my progress in it.
Greets,
Breezer
PS: Thx for the saving without points

I think you call it an event panel, the black and yellow thing. But now that you mention the trees, I think I did go there already. Possibly the trees reappeared after I got killed, but I keep having the same problem after restarting at the sflag.
I went through the caves too, but there was something strange. There is a cave where you can kill several blue guys, but there was nothing else to find. On top of that cave is a dark area that I thought I could shoot away, but that didn't work (I did find the teleport and the first walls that can be broken and lead down).

Oh... I see... there is actually a red gate blocking the way. There is a red switch on the western side of the room that will open them.
Well, here is the modified version. I put in some semi-crude safeguards to keep you from backtracking too much.
