Default mirc down for the count?

Well, fellers, it looks like the new time-burner is working on signatures and personal icons... but I for one really miss the chat. I see someone (hmmm...) locked up Squirm's thread to avoid a war. Wise choice, but now I post a new thread to ask (discussion welcome) what now? Are we going to retry w/ an invite-only type of room that we spread around in here via PM's? Lemme know what interest there is in getting our "family" *sniff, sniff* back together for the holidays. I'd like to give it another shot, and I think some others of you would too...

We (forum leadership) are still considering how to handle the current IRC issue.

It is being addressed, albeit behind the scenes, and slowly, but in the meantime we are going to probably follow a course of action similar to what you described.

Give it time... These things generally work themselves out. Our biggest issue right now is that those folks are "representing" our forum without the benefit of one of our admins or mods to insure that the forum guidelines are followed. Hopefully they are...

hey, I heard that at one point we had an ircOP retake over the channel for us, but at that time we didn't havet he resources to keep it.

Yesterday, I was able to convince someone to get two dedicated line bots on #extreme-vb when we get it back. We should be able to re-setup vbpro (srb's bot). I think we should just get an ircop to get the channel back, and hold it with the bots

i heard that they had jupes come in to try to retake the channel, but the peopel who took it already had ownership and so the ircop couldn't do anything, what's up with that?

plexus - I think you are correct, here is my (guessed) version of events:

1) Channel gets 'taken over' and locked
2) Enough days pass so that the 'takes' get a good priority on JUPES's 2-week database
3) Channel gets unlocked
4) Someone contacts IRCop
5) IRCop uses chanserv-style commands to mass deop
6) Channel remains op-less for a while
7) JUPES enters and (since the 'takers' have got a good priority) ops one of them
8) Channel gets locked again

and divil - why use a *small* violin?

i think a more accurate event list is:
1) channel gets spammed
2) channel gets "taken" in retribution
3) someone cries to an ircop
4) ircop agrees not to do anything because we're negotiating with you lot on a friendly settlement
5) some suspicous looking people come in, channel is re-closed
6) ircop thinks *WE* are the bad guys and triggers a reverse
7) the bot vbpro is not in the channel, and thus can't be opped, the rest of us are in the channel and we do get opped
8) we keep the channel in lockdown because it's suddenly apparent that some people won't keep their word
9) (unconfirmed) you people move to dalnet where we can't touch you (well we probably can if we try hard enough.. but why? it's dalnet and we can just be mufkcers on your forum instead)
