Default "specified cast is not valid"

Hey All
Ive been trying to get VS to work all day and finally it would start without popping the error "the application cannot start" but now another problem.....

Whenever dragging a standard control on a Form, I receive the error:
"specified cast is not valid"
Any idea on how to solve this error?
I have attached a screenshot of the error incase it could be of any help...
Thanx all

Wow. That is a serious problem. What OS have you installed it on, and what version of Visual Studio?

I would definitely install the Windows XP Service Pack 1, then reinstall VS .NET. I would imagine the .NET Framework somewhat expects SP1, and the errors seem to indicate the .NET Framework did not get installed properly.

Easier said than done. Tried it before and some file was in use so into safe mode and still no joy.
The only reason I need VS is c# and possibly VB.net in the future but maybe i can reference the SDK files from SharpDevelop...?

VS installed fine; no error msgs or ignoring of missing files.
[It couldn't find a particular file but that was resolved inserting the next disc]

It sounds more and more to me like a corrupted or not-genuine install set.

Rest assured, it is genuine.
There is the possibility of it being my system. I see no other way.
