Default game wont work with retail version of directx

I installed the sdk for directx and then used direct sound to implement the sound and music etc, however I don't understand why the game won't run on machines that do not have the SDK installed despite them having normal directx.

Hmmm, are you compiling under the Release configuration? Not sure if that would have any effect or not.

Just a quick question. Do you set the Copy Local to TRUE for the DirectX references? This might resolve the problem with other machines.
