Default Screen resolution problem

After I formatted my computer, my resolution keeps goin back to 800x600. If I change the resolution, it wont change untill I restart.

Also, if I move the desktop icons around, then restart, they will go back to the default positions.

Could the video card cause this? I got a nvidia video card with the newest drivers installed.

Help?

Not sure if you'll come back to check after a week of the original post, but I think there's some option that allows you to keep/change your resolution without restarting your computer. Try looking at that.
