Default SourceSafe database on FTP-Site

Hi,

I would like to place my SourceSafe data base (version 6d) on ftp-side. But I do not succeed. Is it at all possible? Or rather, I put the data base, but cann't thit open, because SS searches scrsafe.ini locally ( C:\...\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\... ) and not on WEB?.

Thanks

Well FTP is not "the WEB" but that's another issue.

No, Visual SourceSafe requires filesystem access to the database. You're not going to get that from a hosting site without using a VPN to access it.

There may be other source management tools that will work more effectively with a hosted database.

Here's one hit I got searching for a source-control hosting company:

Interesting.

In later versions (2003, 2005) it looks like it just may be possible after all. Doesn't look like fun though!

There IS an inexpensive add-on (about $50) that you could buy called WebDrive which maps a local drive to an ftp site. This may work for you. However, if using it for access to an mdb file, there are some considerations that may make multiuser access unworkable.

Default Access SourceSafe database via internet

Thanks for suggestions. It is possible in SourceSafe 2005. But I fight there with other problems. I cannot open SS Database by use of UNC on my Virtual Server. Although I furnished Web share correctly. It seems by my Provider everything “course-bricked”.
SS Help:

4. In Visual SourceSafe Administrator, on the File menu, click Open SourceSafe Database.
5. Open the database for which you want to enable remote access. Use the UNC path that users use to access the database to preserve the share security restrictions.
