Question VB4, 5 and 6 code

How different is VB4, 5 and 6 code wise

I'm just starting out and have a few books on VB4, 5 and 6, Each one has its one good and bad points
I realise that more advanced stuff like ActiveX controls are different but for simple programs would the manuals mislead you and give you incorrect syntax or methods for writing programs.

I have VB6 and am currently learning it, i just want to know how much ( or little ) can i pick out of the other books

any help would be great.

I would say most stuff in VB4 and VB5 would be available in VB6, if not all of it. However it doesn't work the other way around, ie VB6 has functions like Split, which VB5 is missing. But you should be able to get an understanding of most of VB6 from the other books, then just learn what new functionality is added in VB6 through MSDN or a book.

There's no point buying pre-vb6 books. Even if they are much cheaper (as I'm sure they are) because .net is becoming more popular.

Saying that, they are fairly similar. Don't get a vb.net book to try and learn vb6 from though

Thanks guys they seem to look similar

I Was given a "Teach yourself VB5 in 21 days" ( very good book ) lots of examples and walk through exercises and i bought a VB6 book as well.
I might take up VB.net when im confident with VB6
