I get that too, which is why I changed it to Trillian.
Plus with Trillian you can actually see the text...

We've been working on getting set up on a new server, and Bob still needs to make a few more changes to get it working properly again with IE. Bear with us; it'll be back soon!

I think the problem is only in the BlueVelvet style, try Light with Blue.

Is it actually trying to connect to irc.visualbasic.com or is it irc.visualbasicforum.com? It should be the latter, so if it is the former then that is obviously the problem.

Could you possibly try downloading mIRC or Trillian and see if you can with one of them?

Then it must be a problem at your end. are you sure that there is no firewall blocking port 6667?

Have you tried connecting to other IRC servers, such as irc.eviltwins.org (Newnet)? Do you have the same problem there?

I have a firewall, but am having no problems connecting to the Chat Forum. I am also using the 1Style - Style Set.

I did notice that it when loading the applet, the following statement is output to the screen
Quote:
No Connections Through Proxies Allowed

Sorry, I did mean in mIRC, since the java chat applet is set up to connect directly to irc.visualbasicforum.com. If you are not able to connect to any IRC server, then it seems it is definitely a problem on your end (the message you show is the same one I get when attempting to connect through a firewall or proxy server). Perhaps it would be worth a call to your ISP's tech support line?

To test a connection to the EVBF IRC server, type
/server irc.visualbasicforum.com:6667
in the status window. For Newnet, try
/server irc.eviltwins.org:6665
Alternately, from the connection dialog (File -> Options), choose a network such as DALnet or EFnet and just click the connect button; mIRC will cycle through the built-in server lists and try to connect.

I am sure you already know (but I will mention it anyway) that you can't access the forum's IRC channel from these other networks, but hopefully this will just help narrow down the problem while troubleshooting.
