A stats program for the current World cup? It would have details on every player on every team etc.

You create an agenda or an address book. The agenda would be more challenging.

You can create a retail outlet...Inventory, Sales, Purchases, Salaries, Shifts and so on.

The problem with a business app is getting sufficient suitable data. I suppose you could work with the default NorthWind database that comes with Access though....

I have thought about the retail sort of thing but was hoping to do something a bit different than the normal sort of thing????? I will probably end up doing something like that though.

Write an inventory tracking system for a drug store.

Have it implement things like:

- "simulated" point of sale capabilities (instead of using barcodes.) Make it so the system auto-adjusts the restocking orders. For instance, how often is a new box of asprin ordered? Every time there has been 500 bottles sold? etc
- Allow for targeted inventories-on-hand to be used. Specifiy projected reorder dates. Companies lose a lot of money for having too much inventory on hand.
- Conduct statistical analysis on individual products. What are the top products? What days are they sold on? etc. This info can be used for promotional sales, etc.
- Write the maintenance program for the store to use and then combine all the information into a intranet/extranet site with ASP, PHP, JSP, or CFM.

The list can go on and on and you can make it as complicated as you desire. Point of sale inventory systems are what drive commerce today. This is the reason why WalMart is the leading retail store and KMart is bankrupt.

Hey,

Well, since I am a car fanatic you could have a database with a bunch of cars, their companies, and their top speeds. Maybe this would take up too much work but that is what I would do.

Default What to do, what to do...

Well, I'm kinda stuck, and it's not even with code. I can't decide what I want to program next! :P I'm looking to program a game, so at least I've got that narrowed down. I have already done a Checkers game (using controls) and a Breakout style game (using BitBlt) (You can check out both at my site if you are interested.)

So, now I'm wondering, what should I do next? I was thinking something along the lines of Snake or Tetris or Galaxian, but I really just can't decide. I'd kinda like to do something that is the next logical step harder, and I don't really want to do something long like an RPG (My Visual Basic Game Programming with Direct X book is on the way!). Suggestions anyone?

oooohhhhhh, both very good suggestions!

I hadn't even thought of minesweeper! That would be a fun one to try, you could even do a 2 player mode... Hmmm... and battleship would be interesting too... Any other good suggestions anyone?

How about a better clone of 'EXITEBIKE' where you can make it a hybrid of the original game and 'Super RC PRO AM RACING', but you can blow gas tanks up, run other drivers/people over, collect weapons, ect...

You could make the battleship use a computer opponent or have 2 player hotseat or 2 player over lan/internet.

If your really up for a challenge try a version of Risk or Stratego. Then there's always Trivial Pursuit, and have the questions be about computers.

You could have different computer categories like:

Inside The Computer
Programming 101
Internet
An Apple a Day
Famous Computer People

Just a thought...

thanks, i really was going for the presentation on checkers. It held 3rd place on Simtel for a while in the card/board catagory.

aaaand, i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not(about snake)? but yeah, it's a fun game. I have some cool ideas for some new game modes...
