Lightbulb Re: Office Automation

'Office' refers to the Microsoft Office Suite of applications including Excel, Access, Word and Power Point.

Automation is a collection of programming methods included with each application which allows you to develop an integrated application with any combination of the Office components.

E.g. you can use Access to store data on your customers,
then add automation to analyse the data in Excel,
send letters to the customers in Word and
publish your statistics with Power Point...

Run a Google search on "VBA Office Automation" and you should get heaps of info including some tutorials to get you started.

Default Re: Office Automation

Automation is Microsoft's term for the COM based system of allowing one
app to control another one. The controlled app is know as an automation
server and it exposes its object model to the client. So for example, I can
reference the Access object library in a VB program, start up Access using
CreateObject, and manipulate/control it in VB code. This is not specifically
related to the database. The database can be directly manipulated by
using DAO/ADO objects.
