Default check box in rtf (or html) file

Hi, I hope this is the best place for this question.
I have finished the actual VB6 coding for an app, but it will have a 'readme' file that I want users to have to read before running the actual app itself, in the sense that if the readme file has not been read, they cannot run the app (and conversely if it has been read, the app bypasses the readme file)
So I am thinking of an rtf file with a checkbox for them to tick saying that they have read the file. When the box is ticked it sends a confirmation to a simple file which the app opens on startup. If the confirmation is positive the rtf file is not loaded, and vice versa. It seems the way to do this is through VBA, but I'm not sure how to do that. Any suggestions? Can I even put a checkbox in an rtf file?

Hi,
I don't think you can have macros in a rtf. Even if you could they might not actually run for each user depending on their settings.

I'd probably have the startup form show the read me text in a Locked textbox with a confirmation checkbox which then enables a button to proceed to the main form. Proceeding then records the confirmation to a file/registry/database for that user.

On subsequent loads the startup form will check for the confirmation and move straight to the main form. You could make the read me text available for viewing again via a menu or something.

Whatever the solution there will no doubt be some users who'll confirm having read the information without actually doing so. Usually this is their problem i.e. a without warranty disclaimer etc, but if it's vital information on how to use the app then this might have implications.

Hi, and thanks again (you've helped me in the past!) - yes, what you say about users claiming they have read the file while they actually haven't was what I was trying to get around' by having the confirmatory checkbox at the end of the file. However the text in the rtf should be quite extensive so the checkbox can still be added right at the bottom of the startup form. Better than nowt.
Ideally I'd display the readme as an HTML page with a checkbox on a form but there appears no way of saving HTML form feedback to a text file. Obviously I could write a PHP script but the chances of all my users having a webserver are nonexistent!
So I might have to agree with your suggestion and simply trust them. They will be scientists on the whole so probably not given to fibbing unless trying to secure a grant ;-)

Couldn't you simply place a checkbox on the form displaying the html readme file, but have it hidden (and the continue button disabled) for x number of seconds? If it's a lengthy file (and you really want to annoy users), you could make it like 10+ seconds. Then only once the checkbox is ticked does the continue button enable.
